I'll Think of a Name Later

I'll Think of a Name Later is a small solo prototype released in September 2024. It is intentionally strange, short, and experimental: a compact place to try out game-development ideas without pretending they needed to become a large project.

The project sits somewhere between a prototype, visual novel, RPG, and 2D game. Those labels describe the shape of the experiment more than a fixed genre promise. The point was to make something, ship it, and learn from the distance between an idea and a playable build. I made it solo, so the project is also a record of learning by handling the whole small loop directly.

The name says most of what needs saying about the attitude behind it: this is work made before all the answers were settled. Its oddness is deliberate, and its short length keeps the experiment honest. A small playable thing can be a better test of an idea than a long explanation of what the idea might become.

That makes the release part of the project, not an afterthought. A prototype can stay a prototype and still teach something. Here, the useful result was getting a compact game out into the world, seeing it run on two operating systems, and fixing the one later behavior difference that appeared between Linux and Windows.

It has builds for Windows and Linux. After release, one behavior that worked on Linux needed a later fix on Windows. That small correction is part of the archive too: shipping exposed a platform difference that was easy to miss while making the prototype. The status is Completed as an experiment.
